hi seniors from 09/10 batch (: this is to inform u all that the strings room lock code has been changed from 853 to 012, due to people bringing their non-strings friend into the room, and even knowing the original code. Do pass the message around to your batchmates if u chance upon this!

Ciao Stringa,

First post here. Issue to be discussed: Concert Repertoire a.k.a. St. Pauls Suite.

Due to some of the feedback from seniors And juniors regarding the suitability of this piece to be played in our one and only concert this year.

First, it is overrated, at least in Singapore's classical music scene. That's what I feel, and that's what I observe as well. I bet some of you might just feel the same way.

Implications: may not be attractive enough a selling point of our concert. Just by Dvorak Symphony may not be enough.

Second, it is largely, technically manageable to most people (no offense to the others) and might be boring to some, whilst others simply don't like it.

Implications: may not serve our purpose of learning more about strings music and gaining more exposure if we stay within our comfort zones.

Was searching for a suitable replacement.
Criteria:
Not too technically demanding, but challenging enough
Familiar (or at least sounds familiar) to the public
Exciting :)

Result of 7hrs of Search: Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 9 in C Major! 3rd movement
listen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpmFYDyLSRs&feature=related
4th movement listen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_rcA9KHjZI&feature=related

Please comment on Facebook page about this idea, regardless of whether you hold proposing or opposing views :) Greatly appreciate your participation. Grrrazie!

Goda la musica :)
Steve.
