Heyo~!
Everyone (including Mr Foo, teachers and seniors) is invited to this sunday's party at the Function Room, Good Luck Garden, Toh Tuck Road, from 6.30pm to very very late!
Each (Golijov) section is tasked with bringing FOOD. Edible food. You may combine with another section if yours seriously lacks culinary talent. Section leaders please tell either Yanmin or myself what your section plans to make by friday, so that we can ensure there isn't any duplication and so we can prepare emergency disaster mitigation plans beforehand.
Don't need to worry too much about really starving to death (I hope) because we'll send people to da bao staples such as fried rice, bee hoon and maybe one or two dishes from a nearby zhi cha store. xD
For the people who are really really (really) hopeless at cooking and will be doing nothing except getting in the way of your section, we'll need your help to go carry the fried rice, and clean and decorate the function room before the party.
Oh last thing, this party is like a ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to really celebrate this wonderful result. So make sure you turn up or Calvin will LICK you. Hurr.
See you there!

lenard here (:
guys, firstly, just want to thank you all again, those who've worked so hard together for our syf gold with honours. i think its a really commendable effort, considering our great performance despite all the competition we've been getting. and like i've said before, you guys make me exceptionally proud, hwa chongian musicians have always had a harder time than others.
for those who weren't in the lt today, mr foo and i were telling the rest about really good, delicious insides into the competition from different sources. i dont think its too good to go into details over the net, but you can ask the rest, and i assure you its really fabulous news.
well, now that syf is over, and rehearsals are starting to pick up again, i hope you guys will find adequate rest whenever possible, and find the strength to pull off our last public event of the year with a bang again. its only a month before the concert, its a long way off but i'm sure we can do it again. our syf impressed alot of people, i'm convinced that now our concert will impress all 800. so, guys, work for what we wish for ya?
hope you guys are with me on this one, as you've always been.

Hey people,
As mentioned before, we'll be having a reduced orchestra for Warlock's Capriol Suite and the Haydn cello concerto, while everyone is playing for Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Golijov. Please see below for the reduced orchestra list.
Everyone is to come for the rehearsal tomorrow at 3 pm, but those not in the reduced orchestra don't need to bring instruments and can go (out to party!) at 4. This Friday's rehearsal is also only for reduced orchestra. The next time the full ensemble will meet is on Saturday morning.
Thanks,
Kevin

- and please please please pay up for your tickets - currently approx 10 people paid up!!!!!!!!!
- so j1s please pay $100 to zhu ni and j2s $100 to kinshun by this fri (27 april) k!!!

life can be so randomly beautiful just like last friday. :)
it has been goodness knows how long, that i since blogged on our strings blog. omg!!!
haha, shall not repeat what i said in my blog, but yes, it was damn high for getting the gold with honours. all the nites that all of us spent together, be it in our wonderful lt3, the auditorium or the saliva filled music room. the experience of working together as a jc ensemble was a totally different experience. haha, more enthusiasm and a lot more frenzy.
come to think of it, it is so fun practising and playing for our syf. yes, ours ours! it was so interesting, especially like how kevin and lenard put it, that we are the only easy going musical group that is able to joke and have fun amidst the stress that piles on top of us. yes, we didn't get piles from sitting too much. lol. anyway, it was damn shiok and haha super funny when everyone laughed at me while i did my pizz. hmmm, hope no one kills me for screwing up that one. thanks for covering up for me peeps! hee2!
oh, our celebrations were good. and we must thank our seniors, grandseniors or dunno how long before de all the seniors who helped us in every way possible. herbert, teng, ti tong (sorry i dunno how to spell) and mingtse and michelle and jianxin. sorry if i forgot anyone. anyway thanks to them for pointing out our mistakes, for conducting sectionals for us. really really touched by what they did, the sense of belonging after they left the school for so long. the ties that bond them to the ensemble never breaks, never beckons under tension or stress. with time, our ensemble progresses, our bonds strengthens. it totally defies nature's course. why? because we are a remarkable ensemble, with familial ties that are to be beckoned. we have the ability and the heart. we rock!
anyway, i heard from harmoc that the rest cheered damn loudly for harmoc. haha, i damn proud of everyone. hee2, i talk like an uncle la... nvm, anyway since i so naggy and cannot stop talking, i shall continue. ya, and harmoc said that it was kinda expected that we would get GWH. haha, to us, it was an uneasy feat, which we still accomplished nonetheless. wahahaha!!!
argh i am getting agitated. stupid la, A levels coming. haha, sorry people if i am stressing anyone out, but ya, reality hurts. yep, change topic!!! haha.
next paragraph!
haha, our next phase of celebrations shall be revealed by kevin. i shall not divulge anything, though most of us would know by now. hee2, we shall have a lot of fun. so meanwhile, when kevin asks for cooperation or anything, let us give him our fullest support, to make this celebration a complete success.
YANMIN!!!

Hey people..
Interesting Stuff I wouldn't mind trying out for concert this year...
CARLOS GOMES (1836-1896): Sonata for String
ALBERTO NEPOMUCENO (1864-1920): Serenata for String Orchestra (since we're playing tchai serenade. the second movement of this serenata is lovely)
CÉSAR GUERRA-PEIXE (1914-1993): Mouräo for String Orchestra
ERNANI AGUIAR (b.1950): 4 Momentos - No. 3 for String Orchestra
HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS (1887-1959): Bachianas brasileiras No. 9 for String Orchestra (fits the dance theme)
AVRO PART: Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten (fits the death theme)
WILLIAM WALTON: Sonata for Strings (like last round, has string solos plus tutti. very original and also very lovely piece. Was arranged from his second string quartet for ASMF)
Philip Heseltine (Warlock)'s Capriol Suite is also supposed to be French Dance music, so Mr. Foo's quite interested in doing it
Go check them out..

This one's for the J2s, especially my regular LAN buddies I'm sure you know who you are. It might be awfully hypocritical of me to say this, but I think maybe it's time we stopped our little IRC outings - they're beginning to mirror our frequent visits to BTP last year after promos and that's pretty scary. We're no longer in our carefree J1 days, we're a year older now and fast approaching one of the most crucial crossroads in our lives. The effort we put in now will eventually dictate which path we take, and I'm sure nobody wants to end up facing a dead-end, or sinking into a quagmire, you know what I mean.
I don't know about you, but for me it's more than being owned by parents for going home late, or throwing precious money down an endless well, this thing concerns the very priorities we have in life. A-s are barely in six months' time, and although we all know how greatly it's going to affect us, I don't think any of us actually realize how staggeringly pivotal it really is. Especially if we're looking to set a proper stage for us to chase after what we're truly looking for in life. And I'm sure that's not playing DotA for the rest of our days. Dreadful as it might sound, the only way to get a nice happy future in our society is to study hard. And do well for our A-s. I'm sure not everyone's fully satisfied with their recent block test results, so maybe it's time to put those hours to good, constructive use instead of bumming it away uselessly. (Yes this applies for all chronic slackers too. Which includes me.) LAN should be a luxury to be indulged in maybe at most once every month, not twice a week.
For me, I might always seem really happy about going for LAN but after the high of here-and-now there's always this empty feeling, or nagging guilt, like I've just wasted two hours doing absolutely nothing that would actually benefit my life. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. I guess it's high time I stopped being the LAN enthusiast that I am, and focus on the things in life that actually matter to me. Dreams and actions should converge, not ricochet in entirely opposite directions. The days God has given us are too precious to be wiled away. Even if we enjoy each others' company, normal outings will prove to be a better way for us to bond, instead of whacking one another in bloodthirsty trysts (particularly if you're using Stywgyr haha). Or like mass mugging sessions or something, although I know the strings room is actually a horridly unconducive place to do any proper studying. Anyway I know I can't force anyone to stop their LAN-ing ways or anything, but I really hope that in view of our impending A-s, we'd actually start prioritizing the things in our lives before the multitudes of distractions steer us away from what we've been working hard towards in our past 12 years of being in school. After all, regret's always best avoided.
Anyway, for those getting back all their blocks results next week - don't worry too much, be zen about it and just take the whole thing as a practice to do better next time. Maybe it's a good thing not to score so well 'cause it'll spur you into actually taking some action mugging-wise. Also, jiayou for SYF. 13 more days. All the best everyone.
Helen.
